An LTL freight broker does not own the purple or orange terminals you see from the interstate. The broker tenders your pallets onto a less-than-truckload network, defends the freight class you declared, and stays on the file when a terminal delays a connecting trailer. If you need exclusive space, you wanted FTL. If you need a 2-pound carton tomorrow morning, you wanted parcel. LTL sits in the unglamorous middle.

Terminals, appointments, and the extra day
Your freight will likely touch a service center. That is why LTL transit is a range, not a GPS promise. Cross-border LTL adds a second network and a customs event. Budget the extra day instead of writing “guaranteed” into an SOP the terminal cannot honor.
Accessorials that LTL was built to bill
Liftgate, inside delivery, limited access, residential, and appointment fees are native to LTL, not tricks. Flag the dock reality. A broker who “forgets” liftgate on a store delivery is not saving you money.

When LTL should lose to a partial truck
High cube, awkward length, or a receiver who hates terminal handling can make a partial FTL cheaper and kinder to the freight. An LTL freight broker who never offers that fork is protecting a product line, not your cargo.
